The box office business is China again witnessed a fall making last weekend the second least collections of the year with a cumulative figure of $41.2 million. The dull box office performance is bothering the film business in China and urging for more film imports in the coming days along with domestic films set to release till the end of this year.
With fewer numbers posted by each film, the lack of new releases is another reason for the poor total and none of the old films got a sensational talk or huge release after Tom Cruise starrer Mission Impossible 6 and the currently running Hong Kong picture. Coming to the top performing films last weekend, Hong Kong thriller film Project Gutenberg collected $13.5 million in its fourth weekend which released on September 30 and still holding the top spot with a total box office of $159 million.
Hollywood’s new release The Spy Who Dumped Me opened with $5.7 million to take the second spot in China Box office and the film has got a good response from the audience due to its comedy appeal. The domestic film Lost, Found stepped down from the second spot to third with $5.2 million in its third weekend to take the total to $32 million.
The Indian Comedy film Hichki starring Rani Mukerji in lead role had a good second weekend, collecting $4 million with a total of $11.4 million in China followed by Hollywood’s animation picture Smallfoot which collected $3.85 in its debut weekend at the China box office. With more releases planned in China for the coming weeks, it is expected to get back to the league with much expected big films having a simultaneous worldwide release.
