The reboot of 2004 horror film The Grudge which was earlier announced to release on August 16 has been officially moved up to June 21, 2019 and set to freak out the fans two months earlier than expected. The previous film is mystery thriller that engaged the audience making it highly successful remake of the 2002 Japanese film titled as Jun-On: The Grudge.
Director Takashi Shimizu who made the original film also directed the English remake and delivered a solid thriller with exciting elements. The curse exposed on a nurse due to an unusual death forms the story and it is carried with a creepy mood throughout the film. The movie which was made in a $10 million budget collected around $190 million worldwide and emerged as a highly successful film.
Now the reboot is coming sooner than expected and Sony has put it on June 21 slot where Disney’s highly anticipated sequel Toy Story 4 is releasing on the same day. Though clash of a G rated film won’t affect a horror film, Grudge first part was already a PG13 film and if the reboot prefers the same rating, there might be collision in the business.
The Grudge reboot is directed by Nicolas Pesce and stars Andrea Riseborough, Betty Gilpin, John Cho in the lead roles. This is the first time director Takashi Shimizu is not associated with a Grudge film who made 4 films so far with the name while for the last film Grudge 3 he remained as a producer, directed by Toby Wilkins.
