A Women Combat Infertility at Brazil by Womb Transplant, Pregnancy Possible for All Sexes

Motherhood brings dignity to a woman and the medical advance at present world are boon to the people. A 32-year-old woman who is suffering from Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser syndrome having being conceived by IVF gave birth to a live baby girl by C-section on 15 December 2017 in a hospital in Brazil. The womb has been transplanted from a 45-year-old dead woman. 

This is the first time the transplant had been done from a dead woman and proved that the womb is capable of gestating a baby without a blood supply to the womb of the dead person for quite some time. The uterus seems to be the powerful organ that can last for a few hours even after death. The woman and the child are at good health and the child weighed 2.5 pounds. The transplanted uterus was removed from the mother after delivery till the long-term effects of the foreign uterus are not known. No doubt this is a happy news for all the woman who does not have a healthy uterus. 

Till 2014, the availability of uterus is limited because the transplant was possible only from a live woman but this transplant has increased the availability of the uterus. The idea of the Artificial womb was already discussed by a biologist JBS Haldane, which would give a freedom for women from the duties of childbearing and changing the concept of considering woman as a machine for giving birth. 

This new technology would help the availability of uterus to trans women and cis men after sufficient hormone treatments and also getting the donor eggs. This womb transplants thus paves the way for future researches and help in pregnancy of all sexes. There is also fear that woman would be deprived of their role in the male-dominated society, which would reduce the mother-child relationship.
