Friendly Relationship of Patient and the Doctors Help for Better Cure
Patients visiting their doctors think that the doctors would underlook them or it would reduce their dignity if the doctors come to know their real habits. The relationship between doctor and patient is discussed in the journal JAMA Network.
Researchers at the University of Utah Health and Middlesex Community College led the research study and with colleagues at the University of Michigan and the University of Iowa, study doctor-patient relationship. The survey was conducted by doctors, patients, psychologists and also through the general public.
In the survey, a female who was younger failed to disclose the truth which was of medical importance to the doctors. This would lead to a poor diagnosis or inaccurate medical advice from the doctors, which the patients were least bothered. Dr. Levy says this inaccurate information about what they are intaking including food and medication, would in chronic illness result in detrimental effects. Sometimes patients wish to get medication for a partner who is ill but not covered by the patient's drug plan.
The doctors say that the patients are cheating themselves without realizing the danger behind it. They are missing an opportunity to remove the bad habits like drinking or smoking, exercising or improving the diet, the condition becomes worse if it is pregnant ladies. The doctors' sarcastic looks on the patient, cause a shame response in patients, which makes them hide truths, according to the public opinion.
There should be positive attitude from the patients as well as doctors to develop a better healthy nation. Frank and friendly communication between the doctors and patient would help for better understanding of the patient for better treatment.
