Home-cooked food is best rather than dangerous fast food, confirms US research: If fast food is dangerous to health, its packaging material is also harmful. The new research published in the Environmental Health Perspectives journal by researchers of Silent Spring Institute in Massachusetts, US confirms it.
PFAS or Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances contained in the non-stick and stain-resistant packing materials increase the exposure of fluorinated chemicals to those who eat food packed form them.
Also, their high resistance to degradation will make them accumulate in the human body. It may cause many diseases like cancer, thyroid disorders, lowered fertility, hormonal changes, and weight gain. Hence it is high time to switch back to home food from eating fast food.
Research on Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances: Researcher Herbert Sushmann and his colleagues at Silent Spring Insitute in Massaches, US, researched decade-old data from NHANES or National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.
It was the data used by the CDC or the central disease control and prevention, which is leading national public health institute in the US. All the 10,000 participants were provided with detailed dietary information and blood samples.
They were analyzed for five different PFAS chemicals. The researchers found that participants’ eating home-cooked food had consistently lower levels in the range of 32 to 50 % of chemicals than eating from sources like fast food, pizza, and other restaurants.
Those eating outside like the microwave popcorn had leveled up to 63 % of PFDA or perfluorooctanoic acid chemicals. Co-author Laural Schaider confirms that this research is the first of its kind to show the link between different food sources and PFAS exposures. In conclusion, the study confirms that the migration of PFAS chemicals from food packaging into food can be a vital source of exposure to chemicals.

PFAS or not home-cooked food is the best: EPA or the Environmental Protection Agency research also found links between PFAS and reproductive and developmental problems. It is in addition to the liver, kidney, and immune system diseases.
Due to the unbreakable nature of PFAS, it many increase cholesterol and weight gain. Hence to check for PFAS levels in the blood for those eating outside food will bring in nightmares of their health.
Therefore home-cooked food is always the best for all and only on rare occasions taking outside food is advisable to stay healthy and without suffering from numerous diseases.
