Though many diets are followed by different people, keto diet is popular now for weight loss. A keto diet is nothing but low-carbohydrate (less than 20 gms of carb) and high intakes of fat like butter, cheese, coconut oil, nuts, and olive oil. As a result, the body shifts from burning carbohydrate to fat for its energy requirement. The body gets into a state of ketosis. Low carbs cause blood sugar level to drop more and the body tends to break down fat and use it for the energy for our daily tasks or doing vigorous exercises.
Keto diet suppresses appetite. Ketosis is a state of the normal metabolism when there is excessive fat intake. When the body needs glucose for energy, it burns the stored fat from the body tissues, resulting in a ketone accumulation or acid buildup, actually mild form of ketoacidosis. This ketosis helps to improve kidney function, who are suffering from diabetes.
A product called acetone is excreted through breath as well as urine causing a peculiar smell with slight metallic taste, which would be resolved on its own in a couple of days. But the frequency of poop reduces as there is no fiber content in fat. It usually takes 4-7 days for effective weight loss in the keto diet. However, long-term following this diet does not result in great benefit.
