Breast Milk induces the immunity for the newborns and protects them from various infections that the baby is exposed. If the mother takes a nutritious diet, all the nutrients will be supplied to the newborn through milk. Breast milk is sterile without any microorganism but feeding bottles and rubber nipples may cause infections. It is easily digested with no constipation or diarrhea. Apart from all this benefit, breastfeeding helps to prevent breast cancer in the mother. A new study reveals that doctors fail to inform new mothers that Breast Feeding prevents breast cancer (a condition in which the breast is removed through surgery).
Scientists of the Ohio State University put forth the test over 700 women aged between 18-53 who has attained motherhood. In this study, only 16% of the mothers reported that they have received the importance of breastfeeding from their doctors. The women who were unaware of its importance told that if they had known this earlier, they would have continued with their breastfeeding during their lactation period. Women with this knowledge breastfed their young ones for a longer period than those who were unaware of this fact.
About 76 % of white woman and 63% of black woman breastfed their child for more than 6 months. Now the risk of getting breast cancer and death rates had increased in the black woman in the past two decades due to less breastfeeding.
Doctors should take care in instruction the mothers to breastfeed their child for a longer duration, the study reveals.
