Highly Resistance Superbug Strains (Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase) (KPC) were found in Royal Hospital at Worcestershire Which once attacked June, repeated in October due to poor hygiene condition. The latest outbreak affected 24 patients, the health inspectors raised the hygiene rating to red, which meant that there is an infectious spreading of this bug.
The same superbug has struck at the same hospital caused 16 deaths over a period of four years. Previously there were sporadic outbreaks in the northeast United States but presently spread through the other parts of the world as in Israel and Greece.
This infection (gram-negative bacilli) is resistant to carbapenem, and no drug had been invented for this infection yet. The possibility of this infection may be also due to the use of a breathing tube of the ventilators which are previously contaminated with the bacterial infection. This bacteria can affect the urinary tract and even cause pneumonia in the affected persons. Carbapenems, highly effective to suspected multidrug-resistant bacterial infection, do not respond to this gram-negative bacilli, raise the worry of the doctors.
The superbug had attacked the orthopedic & the trauma wards, Worcestershire Royal Hospital. The British Broadcasting Corporation, hygiene report exhibited no achievement in infection control in orthopedics and trauma, that included the summary of a wards bedpan not properly washed, disposable urine containers being re-used and the blood sprinkled on a clean tray in the clinical room.
For those patients who are more concerned about the infection, screening is being offered to them at GP surgery or at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. The trust has changed the ward manager and matron on trauma and orthopedic and leadership of the hospital's infection control team. Ms. Morris said the superbugs are becoming more infectious and spreading the hospital have increased their spotlight now. Public Health England said that they are doing their best to control the infection and save the world from this critical situation
