Sexually transmitted diseases increased in US, It is time to be safe

It’s time to be safe in the US with the rates of the Sexually transmitted diseases peaking to 1991 highs: A recent report by the US’s CDC confirms a 40 % increase in congenital Syphilis and historical rates of Chlamydia & worst rates of gonorrhea and Syphilis since the last nearly 30 years from 1991.
Federal health officials raised red flags of a Sexually transmitted diseases epidemic gripping the nation with a sharp rise in STD rates. When compared to year on year basis, which is 17 %, 5%, and 3 % higher for Syphilis, Gonorrhea, and Chlamydia from 2017 to 2018.
If the STD affected patients are untreated, the Fed officials are worried that the problem can get worse with STD leading to cancer, infertility, and pelvic inflammatory diseases.
CDC 2018 report on Sexually transmitted diseases: Jonathan Mermin, director of CDC or Center for Disease Control and Prevention center’s National Center for HIV/AIDS, said that the Americans are sliding backward.
Also, he confirmed that the system to identify, treat, and prevent Sexually transmitted diseases are much strained with overload and are nearing a breaking point to crumble anytime. It is because more than 115,000 people were affected by Syphilis in 2018, which is a record of sought since 1991.
Also, Chlamydia cases are now at 1.7 million, and the most reported than any year from the agency’s start to track Chlamydia.

- One in five Americans are infected by HPV a virus that causes genital warts, the most common Sexually transmitted diseases
- 40 % more babies were born with Syphilis in 2018 compared to 2017.
- 36 % increase in sexually transmitted infections among women of childbearing age
Congenital Syphilis, which passes the infection to the babies in the womb, is preventable. But the affected women have to take treatment to save their babies from being affected by death or mental or physical disabilities.
Cause of Sexually transmitted diseases rate increase in the US: As per the CDC’s contentions, the reason for such a dramatic and historical rise of Sexually transmitted diseases in 2018 may be due to
- Fewer people using condoms
- State and the local governments cutting on the STD programs
- Closing of clinics by governments
- STD testing access reduced
- Fewer follow up of patients by doctors
Hence it is pertinent to be safe in the US and to not fall prey to the rapid rise of STD rate and lose everything.
