Facebook Seems To Get Inspired By Reddit Style Downvote Button

Facebook seems to get inspired by the Reddit downvote button. It has tested using a small set of users in the USA in February and subsequently, Facebook has introduced Upvote and Downvote features to users in Australia and New Zealand recently. This could be a trail before implementing in other countries. The features are indicated as arrows placed at the left of the already existing Like and Reply buttons.

Unlike dislike button, Downvote can be used to flag unwanted comments that would hide it in your Facebook screen and also asks the user whether the comment was offensive, misleading, irrelevant and similar others. Users can also notify others about a fake news by downvoting thus improving the quality of posted comments.

Facebook would then check the reality of the post and if found fake, its size will be shrunk in the NewsFeed. Previously, Facebook has introduced a few emotion symbols like Love, Laugh, Angry and Sad. There has been a longstanding criticism on Facebook regarding this issue and it has been resolved now. Facebook said that it would provide better public discussions on its platform and different options were provided to express the thoughts of users and have a more constructive dialogue.

Facebook is trying to retain its image after its owner Mark Zuckerberg got screwed up by US lawmakers under Cambridge Analytica Scandal. Meanwhile, Facebook has also made modifications in WhatsApp and WhatsApp business by introducing certain features like deleting messages by a sender in group chats, ability to remove a group admin, adding a request for payment option and similar others.
