Hackers Sell Private Facebook Messages for Just 0.10 Dollars Each

Hackers have been playing around the large tech giants since the growth of internet, and facebook is no big deal for them. Around 81,000 users' secret chats are being traded for $0.10 without their knowledge. Many of them came from Ukraine and Russia, and others include users in the UK, the US, Brazil and elsewhere.

The hackers claimed to have access to 120 million accounts, but showed evidence only for 81,000 accounts being sold. They were checked with account holders and confirmed to be genuine. 

Guy Rosen, Facebook's vice president of product management emailed a number of outlets. He suspects the malicious  web extensions to be the reason behind this. To ensure that they are removed, he contacted the browser companies and also asked the users to check if they have installed any, and remove them.

He states, "We have contacted browser makers to ensure that known malicious extensions are no longer available to download in their stores and to share information that could help identify additional extensions that may be related, Rosen said. We have also contacted law enforcement and have worked with local authorities to remove the website that displayed information from Facebook accounts. We encourage people to check the browser extensions they have installed and remove any that they dont fully trust. As we continue to investigate, we will take action to secure peoples accounts as appropriate.
