Whatsapp was reported to be misused for a long time by unsocial messages are provoking violence and spreading fake news. It has been a common problem in developing countries like India where many multimedia items like documents, photos, videos and messages have been forwarded.
World's widely used instant messaging application WhatsApp restricts message forwarding to just 5 at a time in order to curb fake news in India and rumours and the limit may vary from country to country. It is a yet another announcement following the July 10 feature update on Whatsapp that indicates a Forwarded label at the top of the forwarded messages that enables users to easily identify the originality of the message.
The testing of the forwarding limit has been done now and its time for implementation. The company also has other plans in India as the quick forward button next to each media file is also expected to be removed, according to the company's blog post.
Working on end-to-end encryption, the Facebook-owned Whatsapp focuses on fake news eradication issue now and also informed that its updates regarding this issue will continue for enabling the safer and clean platform for users.
Whatsapp update received a good response from its users but as of now, the update seems to be not fully implemented. Still, there are lots to do with the fake news eradication and misuse of the platform. For example, instead of directly forwarding Whatsapp messages, the content can be copied and pasted in any number of chats without any restriction and also such action can eliminate the Forward label feature.
