According to the recent announcement from officials of state-owned BSNL company in the Indian State of Rajasthan, landlines are getting upgraded with smartphone features that involve SMS, chatting, video calling and personal ring back tone (PRBT) as an initiative for Next Generation Networking (NGN) Technology.
BSNL Spokesperson said that the work has started in Bundi district of Rajasthan and landline need to be upgraded with IP phone for availing the above features. Customers are preferring mobile phones rather than landlines and also they have to pay a fixed amount for maintaining the landline service.
So, BSNL landline users were increasingly disconnecting the services. In order to retain the existing customers, BSNL now allows its customers to use the landline service through a mobile handset without any change of landline number or new sim number. Also, BSNL 2G towers shall be upgraded to provide 3G services for providing fast internet services even in rural areas.
