Microsoft users can now sign into their account without entering username and password. Microsoft is now to support password-less authentication for standards-based FiDO2 security key devices which is achieved through FIDO2 WebAuthn and CTAP2 standards.
Setting up a password is terrible for many users as the password they provide leads to poor security. Another important aspect is they easily forget password as most of them are not using password managers. Microsoft is now providing the service which doesn't require a username or password.
Users can now sign-in using either Windows Hello biometric security or a physical security key. The wide range of Microsoft services like Outlook, Office, Skype, OneDrive, Xbox Live, Bing, the Microsoft Store, and Windows itself can access through these aspects.
As the feature represented by Microsoft corporate vice president Alex Simons -"Based on the capabilities of your Windows 10 device, you will either have a built-in secure enclave, known as a hardware trusted platform module (TPM) or a software TPM. The TPM stores the private key, which requires either your face, fingerprint, or PIN to unlock it.
Similarly, a FIDO2 device, like a security key, is a small external device with its own built-in secure enclave that stores the private key and requires the biometric or PIN to unlock it. Both options offer two-factor authentication in one step, requiring both a registered device and a biometric or PIN to successfully sign in.
You can start Microsoft new feature by Setting up Window Hello on your computer or by physical security key in Security-More security-Windows Hello.
