After the launch of iPhone in November 2017, the iPhone sales went well. So, the company ordered for the production of many units for selling in Q1 of 2018. But, contrary to that, Apple iPhone X sales were not up to the target in the Q1 of 2018. Since the sales diminished, it was a blow to the investors of iPhone X but still, it stands front in terms of revenue citing its high selling price ($1000) and brand name. Usually, iPhone models prices are around $ 800 on an average. Since the iPhone is comparatively costlier with other models, the iPhone lovers started buying the previous models such as iPhone8 and 8 Plus. There occurs a change in trend in iPhone market now.
In these circumstances, Apple is also facing inventory issues of iPhone X from its retailers and so, it took a decision to produce only 8 million iPhone X for the second quarter to clear off the inventory, according to the information from supply chain sources.
South Korea based Samsung, was involved in making OLED displays for iPhone X and also used the same for its smartphones. Recently, the company has predicted that Apple iPhone X sales would be lower in Q2 of 2018 since there was not much demand for OLED displays in the market and also cite the heavy competition in the mobile market for high-end smartphones.
Taiwan based TSMC, a supplier for iPhone X informed recently about the drop in demand for its semiconductor chips in Q2 of 2018. Some analysts say that the effect of slow demand would be reflected in the pricing of Apple's upcoming iPhone models such as 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch OLED display iPhones, 6.1-inch LCD iPhone and these would compensate the unexpected sales drop of iPhone X in Q2. But still, iPhone X high price could possibly not affect the revenue estimate of Apple. Anyhow, it shall be confirmed only after the release of its quarter (Q1) financial report on May 1.
