Japan Flood Rescue And Cleanup Operations In Full Swing Amidst Weather Warnings

Rescue and Cleanup efforts are in full-swing in South-western Japan since Monday morning. Roads blocked due to landslides are getting cleared. Paddle boats and helicopters are being used by rescue teams to retrieve people who were stranded on building tops and rooftops. 

Shinzo Abe, the Japanese Prime Minister has pointed out that the rescue process is a battle against time and doing their best for a quick recovery. Firefighters, Police department and disaster relief agencies are engaged in the rescue process citing the social media help messages by stranded people.

According to the recent reports from Japan, the death toll may exceed 100 and still, the cases are yet to be accounted for completely. A record-breaking rainfall of about 26 cm was seen in an area of Shikoku island Kochi Prefecture overcoming 1976 meteorological statistics. Already, an emergency flood warning was provided to evacuate people from the island fearing of heavy rains and also landslide warnings are made in the majority of the island areas.

Okayama Prefecture situated to the south of Hiroshima suffered severe mishap because dozens of houses were damaged and over 500 homes were flooded leading to heavy duty for rescue teams. Mudslide in Kagoshima prefecture killed a couple and a woman was found dead in a trapped car.

Over 170 Patients of a memorial hospital in the prefecture were evacuated and still, 80 more need to be rescued from the place citing flooding and lack of basic amenities like water and electricity. Everywhere, submerged roads and homes are seen. Cars toppled over roadsides and water seeping from cars are the generic views of today's Japan.
