WHO – Global Status On Road Safety and Reports Various Data

Global road safety week is on the go. People around the world are celebrating the 5th Global road safety week. It reminds the need for leadership to advance road safety in every community and country. World Health Organization has released a report that is on the Global Status on Road Safety. As per the report, the people in the age group between 5 and 29 die because of road accidents worldwide. Road safety will also fall in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.

It occurs because of many reasons like rapid urbanization, poor safety, lack of rigid laws, lack of enforcement of the rigid laws, distraction, the influence of drugs and alcohol, extreme speed and failure to wear seat belts and helmets. The way forward, comprehensive road safety laws, strict enforcement of road safety laws, meeting safe vehicle standards, efficient post-crash care, and awareness on the usage of seat belts and helmets should be compelled. Many countries signed the Brasilia Declaration on road safety and committed to halving road crash deaths by 2020.

Advocates around the world are utilizing the chance to Speak up for road safety. They call for urgent action to save lives. Measures like the World Health Organization's SAVE LIVES technical package includes improvement of road safety management, making roads, vehicles, and road users, care after the crash, etc. World Health Organization has pointed out that many countries despite the development have high rates of road accidents every year.
