WHO plans to eliminate industrially produced Trans fatty acids from the Global food chain by 2023. It has asked governments around the world to implement the Replace action Plan to get rid away from the industrial- produced Trans fatty acids from the food supply. Under the Replace Action, there are six strategic actions to make sure of the prompt, complete, and sustained elimination of industrially-produced Trans fatty acids. The six strategies are as follows.
- Review the source of industrially –produced Trans fats and the landscape for required policy change.
- Promote the replacement of industrially produced Trans fatty acids with healthier fats and oils.
- Legislate laws and actions
- Assess and monitor Trans fatty acids content in the food supply.
- Create awareness of the negative health impact of Trans fatty acids among policymakers, producers, suppliers, and the public.
- Enforce compliance of policies and regulations.
International Food and Beverages Alliance (IFBA) offered its partnership to the WHO to achieve the target. World Health Organization has conveyed that eliminating the Trans fatty acids from the food chain can be the simplest ways to save people. In a meeting arranged, both the members of the WHO and IFBA have decided that 100 grams of oil should contain only 2 grams of fatty acids.
The increased intake of Trans fatty acids are the reasons for heart diseases all around the world. Artificial trans fats are created by adding hydrogen to liquid vegetable oil to make them more solid.
