Warning For Selfie Lovers!
Five friends studying in a college travelled from Perth to visit the famous tourist spot, The Gap in Albany of Western Australia on Thursday. One of them, aged 20, was trying to take a selfie deviating from the path and viewing platform. Unexpectedly he fell from a 40-metre cliff and hit the rock bottom before carried away by waves into the ocean.
Then, a person dialled triple-0 and informed that a man was left unconscious at the bottom of the cliff and also warned his other friends from getting to the edge. The accident took place in the afternoon at 2.30 p.m and the rescue team arrived at 2.45 pm and retrieved the body of the young man floating to the west of the Gap after one and half an hour search.
"It is a tragic event and we were surprised to get such a call. It is undigestable to their family and friends. Tourists need to be within the boundary limit as it is a dangerous area", said the Dom Wood, Superintendent of Police. Already, a similar death occurred in the fishing area of the Gap where the man's body was rescued by Fishermen.
The Gap has been re-opened for tourist visit only in 2016 after renovation costing $6.1 million.
